Zahid’s work in education showed him that there were many young people who fall through the net for various reasons. They failed to perform well in further education, so could not get into university or felt that higher education was not for them because of their background or upbringing. Many are in areas with high levels of deprivation, and many were at risk of becoming so called NEETs – not in education, employment or training.
He took it upon himself to come up with a solution – the Scholars School System. Since 2006, this private, independent training provider has offered courses in business and health and social care, leading to professional qualifications.
Zahid established partnerships with Leeds Trinity University and Central Bedfordshire College, University of Bedfordshire, and the Scholars School System now offers four-year courses leading to qualifications such as FdA/HNC/ HND and BA (Hons).
Success Pathway
The Scholars School System has more than 2,000 students at any one time. Zahid has built good connections with hundreds of employers through organisations such as the London and Manchester Chambers of Commerce and Industry. As a result, the courses have an excellent track record of success in helping students into employment.
Scholars School System has a success rate of 93% in retaining students with a success rate of 96% of students who achieve positive outcomes. It is particularly successful in attracting candidates from Britain’s minority ethnic communities and young people from areas of high deprivation, giving them “levelling-up” opportunities they otherwise would not be able to access.
